This policy explains what data Slipreel (the website at slipreel.app and the macOS app) collects, why, and who processes it. We keep collection minimal and do not sell your data.

Your recordings stay on your device

Screen recordings, camera footage, audio, and the videos you export are processed entirely on your Mac. They are never uploaded to us. They leave your device only when you choose to export or share a file. Captions are transcribed on-device.

Product analytics

We use PostHog (US) to understand how the website and app are used, so we can improve them. This records events like page views and which features are used — not the contents of your recordings, file names, or screen.

• Website: anonymous, cookie-free page and interaction analytics, including session replay on public marketing pages to understand navigation and usability. Replays can include public page content, interactions, input values, and the page URL. Sign-in, checkout, purchase confirmation, pricing, and account pages do not load website analytics or session replay. No advertising or cross-site tracking.
• App: usage events identified by a random session identifier before sign-in and associated with your account identifier while signed in. We do not use your raw hardware identifier for analytics. This is opt-out: turn it off any time in Settings → Privacy. It never captures recording content.

Account & email

When you create an account or purchase Slipreel, we collect your email address to create your license, sign you in, and send transactional email (receipts, sign-in links) via Resend. Paid licenses renew their activation online at least every 14 days. The app does not send your sign-in email for usage analytics. If you provide a reply email when submitting in-app feedback, the app sends that email and your message to PostHog (US) so we can respond.

Payments

Website payments are processed by Stripe. Purchases in the Mac App Store edition are processed by Apple. We never see or store your card details. To share access across editions, we store verified subscription identifiers, purchase status, expiration dates, and a random identifier linking the purchase to your Slipreel account. Apple and Stripe process their respective payments independently.

Sign in with Apple provides an account identifier and your email address, which may be an Apple private relay address. We store Apple authorization credentials encrypted so we can revoke access when you delete your account. Email-code sign-in uses Resend. Sign-in codes expire and are stored as hashes.

You can request account deletion in the App Store app under Settings → Slipreel account. Apple subscriptions must be cancelled separately in your Apple Account settings. Website subscriptions are cancelled during account deletion. Records required for financial or legal compliance may remain with the payment provider.

Devices and notifications

We register each installation with a random identifier, its device name, app edition and version, notification permission, and last contact time. When you sign in, that installation is associated with your account so your devices can receive relevant service messages. We store these records and your in-app inbox using Google Cloud Firestore. Signing out removes the current account association; local recordings are unaffected.

If you enable native notifications, we also store an Apple Push Notification service token and use Apple to deliver alerts. You can disable native alerts in macOS System Settings. The in-app inbox remains available. Messages can be addressed to an account or an individual installation. We use installation and account status to operate maintenance and account restrictions while preserving local recording and editing.

Updates, captions, and diagnostics

The Mac App Store edition uses Google Firebase Remote Config to retrieve update availability and minimum supported versions. Firebase uses an installation identifier and technical app/device information to deliver this configuration; Firebase Analytics collection is disabled. App Store updates are installed through Apple. The website edition checks our update feed. The app downloads the caption model (about 488 MB) on first use. Transcription then runs locally. If enabled, diagnostics report technical errors and are associated with your account while signed in. Feedback you choose to submit is processed through PostHog (US), including any optional reply email. Undelivered events may be queued on your Mac; signing out gives new activity a fresh anonymous identifier. Review the privacy controls in Settings.

Hosting & delivery

The site and API are served through Cloudflare and our own servers. Standard server logs (IP address, request metadata) are processed to operate and secure the service.

Cookies

The website does not use cookies for analytics; preferences are stored in your browser's local storage. Essential functionality (such as completing a purchase) may use cookies strictly necessary for that flow.

Your choices

• Turn off app analytics in Settings → Privacy.
• Manage native notification permission in macOS System Settings.
• Delete your account from the app's account settings, or request access, correction, or deletion by emailing us. Website subscriptions are cancelled during account deletion. Apple subscriptions must be cancelled separately in your Apple Account settings. We retain records as needed to provide the service and meet payment, security, and legal obligations.
